I would like to do some carpentry using teak and would like to know what the the best glue is for this type of work. I am concerned about how the natural oil that teak gives off will the affect the glue. The teak will be used in the cockpit so be exposed to weather. Thanks in anticipation of all your help, and a happy and proseperous new year to all.

Polyurethane Wood Glue

Colin: I think your main problem with Teak is the oil on the gluing surface. It is best to have a fresh cut surface if possible. If possible, a dowel or biscut in the joint is prefered. Regardless, you need to clean the surface of the contact area with acetone before applying the glue. I think that any of the water proof glues such as a 'Polyurethane Wood Glue' should serve you well.

epoxy

Epoxy also works well on teak, but be careful if you are going to oil or varnish finish, it won't take the color. I guess that's true for any glue, though.
