I have a squeaky steering cable in my Edson system. WD40 was just a temporary fix. Can anyone recommend a really great steering cable lubricant for the pulleys, quadrant and wheel area? Thanks Bob Catalina 30 '88

Check the manufacturer's website

It's usually best to go "to the horse's mouth" - www.edsonmarine.com They recommend different lubricants for different parts of the system.

Lube

WD-40 is useless as a lube on a boat. I have been using Boesheild, seems to work pretty good in marine applications. Also, Mercury Marine market a very good lube called (I think) Special 101. Stu is correct, go direct to Edson.

WD 40 is as much a solvent as lubricant

Needed is a cable lubricant that will stay with the cable... WD40 is a great product for penetrating and loosening corroded or gummed up parts that require a solvent, but the cables require something that will stay with them and almost any oil or very light grease will do better.

Try this!

Try a liquid spray teflon lubricant available at all automotive stores/departments.
