We had to move our "loved" Oday 28 from Titusville, (upper east coast of FL) to St Petersburg area, for a business relocation.
We REALLY didn't want to dismantle the mast, and ship it on a truck,, would have been relatively fast (140 miles), but though there had to be a better way.
I just didn't have the time to sail south, then through Lake Okeechobee, then north on the west coast -- a 7-10 day trip,, afternoon storms here can be vicious.
I posted a query on U-Ship to get a cost range,, knowing a captain could be $250+/day,, + expenses + travel +++ -- one came in at $4000 ---
I got a bid from a Captain, who offered to take this on, Cost based BY the Voyage, NOT a daily fee,,, so the incentive was to get here safely, yet quickly VERY COST EFFECTIVE!!!!!---no additional travel fees, no food or other expenses,,etc....
and he reported to me several times a day by text with images, comments, location, etc.. communication could not have been better!!!
He left the dock on a Monday at noon, and arrived at our new dock, behind our home on Saturday at 7,, 325 nautical miles.
The whole experience could not have been better,,, Capt. Scott is a true professional,,, a SAILOR,, and a former Coast Guard Engineer ---
IF anyone needs Captain Scott's contact information, I can post it
here and offer more info as a recommendation!!
cheers,
Coyote
