Moorings
Depending on the type of cruising you are doing...We usually have no trouble picking a mooring up. There is usually a small fee involved. Other than that there are plenty of protected anchorages. An appropriately sized anchor and rode for your boat along with a storm anchor will be sufficient. You should keep each anchor setup with it's own rode. If you foul one and are forced to cut it you will need the other intact. As far as configuration (length of chain and line) it is more than a simple conversation.
