Assuming you are doing near-coastal cruising in the Boothbay Maine area in a 1992 H28, how many anchors (and what type) would you recommend carrying? How much rode and how long a chain? Does each anchor have its own rode and chain or do you swap out based on weather and bottom conditions?

Depending on the type of cruising you are doing...We usually have no trouble picking a mooring up. There is usually a small fee involved. Other than that there are plenty of protected anchorages. An appropriately sized anchor and rode for your boat along with a storm anchor will be sufficient. You should keep each anchor setup with it's own rode. If you foul one and are forced to cut it you will need the other intact. As far as configuration (length of chain and line) it is more than a simple conversation. There are many good books and websites to get you started. See http://www.sailingusa.info/anchors_and_docking.htm For the Boothbay area I would start with Duncan's book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0393048586/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/102-3720074-5236955?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). In there you will find many location references along with warnings about bottom types, etc. Good luck
