Berth size mods for tall sailors

I just sold my Mac 26D, and I am thinking of buying a Hunter 27 75-85 model. I tried the berth in one and found it to be rather narrow and just barely fit my 6'1" frame. The head room is okay from sole to cabin top. How have other tall sailors managed to sleep well on the Hunter 27 ?

4 Berths for 6' 1

My brother is 6'2", and is comfortable in any of the 4 berths. That assumes only one in the v-berth. The quarter berth does require some acrobatics to get into, but is his favorite for sleeping. On the cabin bench seats, the sleeping berth continues a good extra foot into the head under the sink to port, and a drawer to starboard, giving plenty of length. The ultimate mod is the "big bed." Use fittings or routing to allow 2x4 stringers to hang between the fiddles on the cabin benches. Cover with plywood, then a foam pad to match the bench seat pads. Unroll a foam "egg-shell" layer over the whole assembly, and you have a queen sized bed in the cabin. The added parts for the bed are stowed in the v-berth when not in use. David Lady Lillie

Thank You David

Thank you David that is just what I wanted to know. This will be my first heavy boat that I am buying and I am a bit apprehensive about the purchase. There is so much to know. Kay
