Bermuda triangle?

While rummaging through the book exchange rack in our marina a few weeks ago, I came across a book on the infamous "Bermuda Triangle", which I just read. The book tells stories of boats, ships and planes lost without a trace in this region. It also talks about electronic equipment suddenly failing and compasses suddenly spinning wildly.

Nope, I'm not a UFO fanatic or one all into that sort of stuff, but it did make me curious. I'd be very interested in knowing what those who have sailed in that region think of the "Bermuda triangle" legends.

Years ago there was a documentary on PBS I believe which explained (debunked)
each legend in order with people who were involved appearing.
I had some friends who were believers in the "Bermuda Triangle". You know, they would not watch the truth, too boring!
There are more missing planes in the Conus than the "Bermuda Triangle"! I believe there are more missing in Alaska.

We used to boat there all the time. Power boat back then. We had a 25' Chris cruiser and were quartering in slow rollers. The compass began to spin wildly, first one way then the other. I went down below and took our friends small gear bag off the bulkhead (the interior wall just behind the instrument panel) and the compass was fine. We removed the hook so you couldn't hang stuff there again.

Its' only weird until you find the real world answer.

I saw a chart of the East Coast with all know plane crashes, and sunk boats. The dots representing each off the coast showed no pattern at all. They were everywhere. In other words, the Bermuda triangle was no different then any othe triangle, or square, or circle, of any part of the coast.

In 1987, I was First Mate and Navigator on an Amel Mango 56 Ketch from Antigua to Chicago (allmost 4 months). We sailed through the BT, stopped at Bermuda for a week and went on to Florida, East coast and points North (Hudson River, Erie canal, Great Lakes). Never had an issue while in the BT. I do have to say that the stories / legends NEVER left the back of the mind. It was a constant presence while in the BT.
