I think this is legit. So he puts his boat up for sale and lets us all know. Anyone from the board who goes to look at it already knows that a survey is critical. Any board member will come back to us with a price and will get more than enough advice to make a good decision. I would say this is a great environment for this sort of thing.

Ive come across that nigera scam

And all they want to talk about is the money, money, money. In fact, most of the time they won't even use the name of whatever item is being transacted - just calling it "the item". They also use annonymous emails, and I dont think they'd EVER go on a site that can obviously track their IP!

I always get emails from Nigeria

Apparently people are all dying all over there, and leaving me millions of dollars. You'd think everyone from Nigeria was rich and on their death bed, and willing to bequeath everything to strangers from the US, just because.

Nigerian...he he that's a good one.

To all the conspiracy theorists... I'm not from Nigeria and this is obviously not a scam because I'm not asking anyone for personal information or money. I simply do not know a single thing about boats; never been on one and don't plan to anytime soon. Now, if you want to talk about art or art history, ask me anything because this is my expertise. Again, thanks to everyone for their kind replies and suggestions. After selling the boat I will be sure to let you guys know the details.

One of us could stop by (the boat) and give

you an informal survey of said vessel. A 'professional' survey will cost you around $350 and a buyer would want to see a recent survey or hire their own surveyor before purchasing (for insurance purposes). I am frequently in Nassau County (north shore) and could swing by and give you an informal rundown of what systems the boat has or does not have if you want. Did I say for free? Yes. I also own a 27' sailboat (not a Catalina) and know what to look for. A good sailboat looks like something Edward Hopper painted with white sails flying over a boisterous sea with puffy clouds overhead. That is the romantic vision. The practical part of sailing involves examining the boat's many systems and assessing their status. my email: calebjess at aol.com
