Bent Stern Rail 28.5'

During Hurricane Jeanne the trawler in the neighboring slip rocked into my '86 Hunter 28.5 and bent the port side aft stern rail and one port side lifeline support. I'm told that stainless steel cannot be easily rebent but would really like to repair this damage as it is the only thing wrong with an otherwise wonderful boat. It isn't obvious to me how the rail is attached to the boat or how big a job this might be. Any ideas from anyone? Thanks. Larry

try it

The rail is through bolted. You'll have to climb back in the aft cabin and find the bolts. Use a deep well socket and extension. You may be able to bend it back into shape, what have you got to lose?

Thanks!

Thanks. That is comforting and I don't mind trying to straighten it if I can get it off the boat. Anybody know what the socket size is? My deep sockets are metric.

Charley got mine

A few phone calls will save some time, but, when you have your rails removed, take them to an automobile body shop or motorcycle shop. Your area should have one equipped to straighten stainless steel tubing. Otherwise, a metal fabrication shop can heat, straighten and polish your rails. Hurricane Charley bent my bow and stern rails. So, I know how you feel.

Ivan damage

Ivan damaged the the rails fore and aft. I don't think they can be repaied. Is there somewhere I and buy these?

Good Place out Here

Canvas Specialties 850 664-6300 Larry, I can help to hook you up with a slip at Eglin if you want to bring the boat over for them to make measurements. I imagine there are places over there as well but I can recomend these guys highly.
