Bent mast step

Has anyone had a problem bending the mast step? Last year, when dropping the mast for the first time, I forgot to disconnect the boom vang from the mast step. When the mast was lowered, it pinched on the boom vang, and appears to have bent the mast step a little. My question is, can the mast step be placed in a vice, and bent back, or am I better off replacing it? Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the boards.

Most of the force on a mast step is compression (downward force) I believe.
I've seen quite a few pictures of reshaped mast steps that still do their job
just fine. Ours has been bent for years and years.

Bend/hammer it back into shape best you can and don't do that again.
Let your mistake become experience and don't throw away money unless you want to throw it our way.

Just my .00000002 cents

Thanks for the response topcat0399, I'll give it a try. Was afraid that my mast was going to look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
