We are considering a beneteau oceanis 463 1997, I don't see this model posted on the site... anyone have any feed back and info about this model? What is the differnce between moorings and oceanis models? anyone do off shore cruising in this beneteau? we are also looking at an older Tayana but the beneteau has so much MORE for less $$$ Any feedback welcome! We are currently Hunter owners and are planning an extended cruise with 2 teens.

Seconded

I'd be interested in any info on this model as well - satisfied/dissatisfied owners, plumbing/electrical info, headroom, etc.

Charterr Version of the OC4631

Heidi, Sorry, No personal experience on the water with this boat, but have have toured the OC461. The 463 (as I understand) is a three cabin charter version of the popular 461 introduced in 1997. These are esentially standard Oceanis vessels with accessories and modifications as specified by the charter customer. The differences are subtle, all geared toward ease of maintenance. While most charter boats are reasonably well maintained, they are generally rough around the edges and will normally have high engine times. Recommend that you pose your inquiry on beneteauowners.net You may also find some examples on yachtworld.com. Introduced in 1997, a few will begin to pop up on the market. Don't be surprised to find that they will have 2000 to 3000 hours on them. A privately ownered non-charter vessel will likely have less than 600 Hours on the engine. Jon

Beneteau 463

I took ASA 103/4 on a 1997 463 in the BVI's last year. It was for sale at the time and I have to say I was impressed - for the price. Since the BVI's are the easiest cruising grounds in the world I can't really comment on its blue-water ability, but fit and finish were great for a production boat. All systems worked well although it was basic, with no inverter. It didn't point particularly well, tough getting past 50 degrees to the wind, but that could have been a case of needed sail replacement. Other than that I can't recall anything being wrong with it. It was professionally maintained which I'm sure contributes greatly to its liveability. Just don't compare it to a 473. Below they're similar, but top-side the generational differences become quite apparent, particularly in the cockpit and deck design.

Thanks

Thanks for your input, in the meantime, seems the boat we were interested in has sold and we have an offer on another make. I still love the Beneteau, but think we are leaning towards a more proven bluewater cruiser since we want to cross the Pacific...

What Might that Brand be?

Heidi, "think we are leaning towards a more proven bluewater cruiser" Assuming that you are considering another boat of similar value, I would really like to know what you found. I am fairly certain that you will not find another comparable boat that has logged as many trouble free miles as the Beneteau 460 series. Blue water capability is more a matter of how it is equipped not the brand. Jon

wauquiez

Since you ask, we found a Wauquiez in Florida. Still not 100% sure about it due to slightly higher expense. So we are still looking at Beneteau. The hull construction and the rigging and wiring on the Wauquiez is very beefy, hence my "bluewater" comment. I know of people who have cruised all over with all manner of production boats, so I am not a snob about it. But if you can find a boat like the W at a good price... who can say no? All tht being said I still love the Beneteau that we looked at! Lots of "bang for the buck"!
