I have a Beneteau 361, and I am looking to get some ideas from other owners regarding how to effectively use the space in the large lazaret. I know that other Beneteau Oceanus models have similar large spaces. I have been thinking about this problem for a couple of years, but have not had sufficient time to work on it. So, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

suspended milk crate

I have a 473 with two very deep lockers in the stern. I have assorted life jackets, fenders, and other items stored (some in milk crates) at the bottom. In each locker I also suspended a milk crate from the lip of the opening - essentially creating two very useful bins - one under each locker hatch. To suspend each milk crate, I made 8 flat rectangular pieces of stainless steel (I first used aluminum) about 1" x 4" out of thin sheet metal. I drilled a small hole in one end. I then took these to the boat and simply bent them by hand around the lip of the opening and created flat "S" hooks that hang on the lip and still let the hatch close. I tied a piece of nylon cord through the hole and then to the milk crate - 4 hooks for each crate. The crate are simply to remove and re-insert and they make great use of the "dead air" space above all the stuff at the bottom of the locker. Mike Belvedere B473 #272 Huntington, NY

Great Idea

I like your suggestion of the milk crates and will trysomething similar on my B323. One thing I did was add a gas strut to the lid because the thing was walways slamming shut at inopprtune times. I used a 40# Attwood strut, but that could be increased to a 60# strut if one were to suspend milk crates with gear in them. It seems like everything I need always migrates to the bottom of the locker
