Is the anyone out there with a 30E? I have purchased an '83 and it would be great to have someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to this beauty.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Cheers!

Richard

Good to hear, MSade. The boat is on the hard awaiting launch in the spring. And I'm chomping at the bit.

Unfortunately, I bought the boat at the end of the season and the standing rigging was all down. It has running backstays, which I have never used before although the are members in the club who can help with that. The biggest question I have relates to the turnbuckles attached to the mast below deck. Are you familiar with the reason for them and what kind of tension I have to put on them? Are they tightened after the stays or before or at the same time?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

R

Hi Richard
I do not recognize the rig as a first 30E rig - my boat did not have running backstays and turnbuckles attached to the mast below deck.
Suspect that your rig is a beneteau first30ES (extra s means extra speed)
The 30e is described as racer/cruiser while the 30es is a pure racer.

Nice looking boat:

Our 36.7 has turnbuckles on the mast inside the cabin. They angle upwards and hold the mast to the mast partners. The partners help distribute the horizontal load of the mast to the deck. They are snug/tight. Rigging tension will have little or no effect on them.

Thank you both for your replies. ES sounds exciting, MSade.

Jackdaw, appreciate the guidance on the stays. Thought it was a balancing act between those and the rigging. Snug I can handle.

Both of you have a great year!

Richard
