Hi fellow sailors, I've been sailing for a couple of years now and am planning on buying a new boat to sail around the pacific. I like the 50ft beneteaus i've seen and was wondering you I could get some advice from you guys, like... ... is beneteau better than gib'sea, or would you suggest another ... what are the knacks that i have to watch out for ... any general information you'd like to part with best regards, Nick

I'm usually skeptical

about these posts from people who claim to have the scratch to up and buy a 50' boat, but I'll put my two cents out there; Beneteau's are NOT designed to sail around the world. They'll do it, they're strong enough, but they were designed for ten-day charters in tropical waters. They don't have the fuel capacity, for one, and they are almost all masthead sloops, not my first choice for an around-the-world sail. There are other things, but these two should be enough to knock them off the list, period. BTW, I have an OC400 that I took to Mexico from So. Cal., if that means anything to you.
