42s7 comments
I have sailed a french built 42s7 in the BVI area for five years. Because it is easy to sail and fast, the motor gets most of its use cooling the icebox and charging the batteries. The engine is very difficult to service because of poor access. Watch for tank leakage around the seal at the top of the water tanks. The electrical wiring is not a major source of problems but is very poorly installed. If you plan on a hydraulic autopilot, the pump motor may draw up to 15 amps in heavy seas so make sure you get the right model. The steering wheel is big and so I often remove it when anchored and hang it over the side, (very carefully of course). Beware as this can be a safety issue if you drag anchor during the night.Overall, and excellent boat for the Caribbean and similar waters.Mike
