Hi.

I have a 2004 423 that has a C70 Raymarine Chart Plotter with Integrated Radar. The GPS/Chart Plotter works great. I'm having a problem with the radar in that when it's turned on it pops the breaker after an random amount of time. I've following the lines looking for chaffing, loose ground, ect. and have turned up nothing. I'm just curious if anyone has encountered a similar problem and if so, what the solution was. Thanks.

Remove the cover and check for a binding antenna. If it is binding for some reason, it will increase the current draw and blow the breaker.

Try running one size larger main power line to it. Dealer always install electronics with the smallest wire they can to save money, 'cause many times the ABYC specifies a size that will work over a given length, in a perfect world. Add the tiniest variant, and it pops a breaker.

Raymarine recommends a separate source of power for the radar antenna, Hopefully tou are not attempting to power it throughthe chartplotter circuitry. Check your chartplotter manual, it shows a recommended wiring method.

Put in a bigger breaker if the wire size will support it- and see if it still blows.
