Looking at a 2005 373 with yanmar 29 hp. Many other boats have a 40 hp. is the 29 hp enough for the 373. Also I have been told that a boat with the stack pack main sail will perform better than one with a roller furling main. any comments will be apriciated.

I have a B323, with 3YM20, and i think your 29 is enough hp for a 37. The Benny boats have a very round hull, low drag, I would say. Take it for a spin and see if she makes hull speed. Others may counter my opinion. >>> If you've followed these forums, you'd see many people having problems with roller mains. I avoided it like the plague when I bought my boat new.

Same position as Ron. 3ym20 is plenty for a B323. I'd agree and stay away from roller main.

On the roller main, I will never buy another boat without it. Yes, you lose a little bit of sail area, but if you are recreational saillor like me that wants an easy way to reef quickly and an easy way to get the main up and down, you cannot beat the roller main.

If you want to race or otherwise want more performance, get the classic main.

I would not havearoller furling mainsailif you paid me! Everybody I know that has had one has had major issues with it, mostly at the worst possible time. They are nothing but a PITA, especially as the sail and lines begin to age. Besides you give up a significant amount of sail area and shaping ability.

I have the roller furling on my 373, I'm in my second year with this boat, and would never go back. I have an occasional problem with it unfurling from the mast, but a quick tug and it pops out. Never had a problem with it furling.

I use the boat for cruising (not racing), and I'm more interested in convenience and safety than getting the last ounce of performance from the boat. We live aboard for the summer months. I don't care that the sail doesn't perform quite as well as other configurations, the ease of use means that it get used more often then not.
