Not practical for us. We live aboard. In the winter we only leave the galley sink open. No need for any others. The rest of the season requires we leave the seacock open for the reverse cycle heat/AC. The head sink drain is above WL and we keep the boat covered in the winter.
All electrical stays on for solar/wind generation, powering the heat/ac, battery charger, etc.
We do have 2 high water alarms in the bilge that are deafening along with 2 bilge pumps. My neighbors would hear them or someone in the resturant would complain.

I keep the sea cocks in the head closed all the time. The one under the galley sink usually stays open and the cooling water for the engine stays open. I guess I should look into closing them.
As far as electrical, I keep a battery charger going all the time and I have a light bulb in the main cabin for humidity. I turn off all d/c breakers except the auto bilge pump.

Having worked on things mechanical, I don't trust anything mechanical. Through hulls are closedunless I'm on the boat, and even at night. I even shut off the city water in the house in Forked River when we leave. Greater peace of mind.
