Beneteau 361 green boot stripe

hello,
I have beneteau 361 with the forest green boot stripe. I have a little hairline crack at the transom that I noticed this year. I was hoping to gouge it out and add some epoxy in it to close it up. When I am done, I was hoping to top coat with green paint.

Reading on here, it seems that the green stripe is gel coat. Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix the green gel coat. Is there anything out there that is color matched? I checked beneteau and they don’t seem to offer a touch up kit. I suppose I could just find a two part epoxy from interlude and paint the whole thing. While the green is getting a little tired. That seems like overkill.

Any suggestion how to touch up the forest green gelcoat? Thanks.

Tim

@tnathan I understand you can color gelcoat with an paint based pigment. Check with a local chandlery that may have gelcoat. Check out the website BoatworksToday. (https://www.boatworkstoday.com/) He has great tutorials on fiberglass repairs.
Tim, I would guess Jamestown Distributors (who market resins and Gelcoat) can help with the color and product.
SBO store may also have product that can help.

I have a white Beneteau 373 (2004) which has a dark green cove stripe, and it is actually a vinyl sticker, not gelcoat. I'm not the original owner, so I cannot attest that it came from the factory that way, and obviously the 373 and 361 are different models... but worth investigating/considering whether that may be the case on your boat as well... if it is a sticker, you can generally feel the raised thickness with your fingernail.

The bootstripe on my 323 is gelcoat.
Although I have not needed to repair it, I know that I have seen color chips somewhere that provide the formula for any color gelcoat. It may have been in a large autobody supply shop. I just cannot recall. (halfheimers I guess)

I don't know if the original bootstripe of my boat was gelcoat or paint (don't know how to tell) but I repainted it some years ago using good quality car paint with the roll and tip method. Result was very satisfactory.

If you can’t live with the hairline crack an epoxy filler will do the job, then you just need to match the paint on the entire section of involved boot stripe. My boot stripe was actually a metallic auto touch up type. BeneteauUSA was able to give me the name and part number.

The wide green boot stripe on my 331 was paint. I know because it had flaked off pretty badly before I painted it a couple of years ago.

The stripe is painted, and the Beneteau Parts website identifies it as Interlux YQB-663 Jade Green. But it's $173/gallon!

On other sailboats I have owned (and there have been many) I always used good old Tremclad.

I have to adjust my report of having used Epifanes Waterline, which I based on a receipt I had for that paint. But on further bushwacking through the mental cobwebs, I remembered that the Epifanes color wasn't what I wanted, so I moved on to Petttit's 2 part EZPoxy2 Enamel in Bermuda Green, which worked for me.
