We are the proud new owners of a 2000 361, and we are about to embark on the pre-season preparation. I intend to use the Pettit Hydrocoat, and was wondering if any other 361 owners have used this, and could tell me how much paint they used. From a quick google search, I've seen recommendations ranging from 1-1/2 gallons to 4 gallons.

Can anyone offer their opinion/experience?

Thanks!

Bob, congratulations on your new boat! Good news is the stuff will keep until next season. I'm a bit longer than you and can put two coats on with 3 gallons. However, I thin my paint with a few ounces of distilled water per gallon. If your bottom paint is in good condition, you don't intend to change color, and will haul it yearly I would recommend that you roll on a single coat and see how it holds up. Bottom paint build-up leads to expensive removal and prep work. So don't go crazy with the stuff. Hydrocoat is pretty tough stuff in the upper Chesapeake.

I've been using about three quarters of a gallon per coat of Pettit Ultima SR-40 on our 37. But I've been applying it very thinly with a 3/16" roller. This is also on an almost new bottom with no rough buildup. The first year I applied two thin coats, and by the end of the season the high wear areas were wearing down to the first coat, so I was satisfied with that. I agree with Gunni that you don't want it building up over the years.

Thanks for the replies. One gallon was pretty much the exact amount I needed. Once the jack stand pad areas are painted, there won't be more than a few ounces left. The hydrocoat goes on very nicely. Good coverage without a lot of build up!

Hi Bob,
I just anti fouled my 361, I used 7.5L although the 2nd coat was not 100% coverage so should have gone for 8L ( 2.113 US Gallons ) Not sure what else you would like to know, but here is what I learnt...
1: If sanding don't do it dry, wet down and wait or wipe of drips underneath.
2: Dont anti foul any transducer ports or the anode.
3: Wear full coveralls, hat, surgical gloves and a proper mask for both cleaning and painting.
Hope this helps, Lee
