I would like to know the reason for the baby stay in front of the mast, I gather it is to stop the mast pumping but has any one removed the stay and had no issues with the rigging. I have asked around several marinas but know one seems to know if it is really required and looking at other brands with the similar mast and rigging that do not have a baby stay has me wondering, all feedback would be much appreciated.

On my First 30 and Oceanis 311 & 331 I removed the baby stays. Just something for the jib to hang up on. No problems in over 30 years. So I guess if you are not doing any heavy duty racing go ahead and remove it.

Usually a mast will only pump in heavy conditions and heavy seas, so if you are sailing about in fairly moderate conditions you can get away without it. It also will help put in the proper prebend consistent with your mainsail.

Bill called it. Remember that that typical of Beneteau, the 361 is a masthead rig with NO forward lower shrouds.
