I have a 2003 Beneteau 331 with a lifting keel. "Somehow", while the boat was in on-land storage the centerboard has dropped down taking the worm drive mechanism down with it. The winch handle, which I had left in its slot, was split in two and had flown through the cabin. I cannot remember what the piece was which protruded through the dining table and which accepted the winch handle. I also need to know how the worm drive lifting mechanism was secured to the level of the table/on top of that housing it is in.
Does anyone have a diagram or drawing of this, or any information that would help? Thanks so much. Melissa

On the 331 the keel assembly looks like this picture. I've been on one, and it uses the same keel screw our little First 260 uses. I cannot image how the board could have fallen and pulled the handle down. I've seen them (the screws) come apart but not fail in one piece.

Normally the white plastic part between items 2 and 3 on the diagram sits over a smaller hole in the table. That would have to fall through for the whole thing to go down.

Thanks for the drawing and for getting back to me. As I say, I am not sure how this was provoked to happen…. I have a feeling the boatyard used substantial force…... Do you happen to know whether I can get the white plastic part and the top fitting (which accepts the winch handle) as separate parts and install them onto the worm drive mechanism?

Thanks.

Melissa

No problem re the help. re your question, hard to say. I've ordered a replacement screw in the past and it was only available as one monolithic part. Ward at Beni USA might know, but pretty sure he'll say the same.. Post some pix if you can, might be able to know more after we see the state of affairs. It might be the table and not the screw that failed.

Hi Clay,
I will call Ward, tho getting answers or help from Beneteau is not as easy as it used to be…..
This is my first time using this forum…. not sure I uploaded these pictures properly, and even if I did, unfortunately you cannot see exactly what is down in the channel the worm drive is in. You can see that what is supposed to come up thru the hole in the table is not there anymore. Unfortunately my boat is in Mass and I am in FL right now, so cannot take more pics.

Anyway, thanks so much for your help.

Best, Melissa
