I own a 2004 b 331. Three times now one of the 3 wires from the engine panel to the starter have broken (twice the connectors once the wire) have broken during operation. I suspect the wires are two short and are stresed whle the engine is vibrating while running. I recent spliced on about 3 dditioanl inches and so far so good. I am going to get the dealer to replace the whole wire harness at the end of the season. has anyone else had this problem? also, what is the correct cruising rpm for the Westerbeke 30 engine?

The owner's manual says cruising RPM for this engine is 2500-3000. I'd find a spot where you can reduce RPMs without affecting speed too much and use that as your cruising RPM. In case you don't have this engine's manual, you should get one. Has excellent info on engine operation, maintenance, trouble shooting, etc. One of the truly good owner's manuals I've seen. You can get one at Torrensen Marine, and the part number is 36906. They have an very nice web site with lots of info plus online parts ordering. As for the wires, the harness is tied down pretty tight to avoid chafe. Maybe finding a bit of slack somewhere will help.
