Beneteau 32s5 Cork, Ireland
Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 32s5 and have had a survey done. The surveyor found the beam/rib just aft of the keel has been pushed up about 6mm. From the bottom of the boat there is a slight indentation can be seen just aft of the keel. There is no cracking on the GRP on the outside nor inside of the hull (beam/rib). There is no evidence of an impact on the front or under the keel. The boat has been laid up ashore for about 9 months using wooden poles and resting on the keel. Is there any know issues with the Beneteau’s around this type of damage?

Hi, I have owned a 32S5 for 10 years and until I built a custom trailer to winterize her on, I also to noticed that the cabin floor deformed as you say just aft of the keel / hull joint when the hull weight came on the keel. I have also seen other boats deform similarly when resting on their keel and it certainly did not do any damage to my 32S5. Infact, in comparison to other yachts the lateral ribs that the sole rests on the 32S5 are very substantial. My Boat is also for sale lying Ireland. Happy Boat Hunting

Ian, it is a small world, especially in Ireland! I believe I have heard of your boat, as our surveyor did a survey on a 32s5 in Galway a couple of weeks ago. Thank you so much for your reply! I suspected this is the case with the hull. Does your boat have a Volvo Penta 2002 engine that is raw water cooled with sea water? If so, has your engine had any issues due to years of saltwater running through the block? The engine in this boat has seen 25 years of saltwater and I wonder how much life is remaining in the block. Regards, JT

Hi. No, my 32S5 has not been surveyed. Yes it does have a volvo Penta 2002 but the engine block anode has been regularly changed and each winter the engine would have been flushed with fresh water and then filled with anti freeze. I believe that if this is done then there should be no trouble with corrosion. I will reply to you privately regarding Trailer and survey.
