Beneteau 323 holding tank

Hello,

I have had my Beneteau 323 for 5 years and we are considering moving to the South of France. I have been told I need a holding tank and my European supplied B323 came with a holding tank, but I have never seen it or used it. We bought the boat 2nd hand when it was 3 years old. I know where the pump out fitting is, but there is no obvious diverter valve under the sink nor tank in the cockpit locker. I was told by a Beneteau dealer than the tank should be in the cockpit locker on the bulkhead adjoining the heads, but this is where my AC electrical power comes in and is rectified to DC and split to the ac circuit.

There is the standard cockpit locker floor and I have had the 2 rear most panels up, but not the forward. Could it be under there with hot water heater?

I am away from my boat and can't check for myself until the weekend before Christmas.

Any ideas??

The 323 owner's manual (for the US anyway--I found it online) shows the 13 gallon holding tank in the forward end of the cockpit locker, as your dealer said. It looks like the hot water tank is right about there too. So maybe the holding tank is under the floor--I guess it could even be the bladder type. But you should see some fairly large hoses (1 1/2" ) going in and out there.

What you describe is the standard location for the tank. In Europe modern Beneteau's typically come with a gravity holding tank.. the whole tank is above the waterline and the head ALWAYS empties to it. Once at sea, opening a single value would drain it.

I know several boat owners that have removed these tanks and gone to direct discharge. Maybe this has been done to your boat.

Is there anything connected to the deck pumpout fitting? The water heater is UNDER a shelf in the front of the stbd cockpit locker.

I have never paid any real attention. From memory there is a thick white hose, but I'm 380 miles from my boat and won't see it again until next weekend. I'm really hoping for someone to have photos of their setup.

A simple way to find out is to pump five gallons of fresh water and then check the holding tank. If it's going overboard, it's just fresh water, no damage. If it's going into the tank, just water, cleaner pumpout
