Has anyone installed an electric or manual windlass on a Beneteau 321? We are looking at going down the ICW in November, 2009 and this 64 yr old bod is just not the same. Thanks

Ray, is that anything like the newer version 323? 323 has a shelf in the anchor locker, maybe 7 inches down, and is the aft 1/3 of the locker openeing?

Ron, yes approxiamtely the same deminsions. We bought the boat at the Annapolis boat show in 1997 for delivery in 1998. We have been at Rock Hall for the past 4 years. When I retired we moved to Pittsburgh to be with the kids so we aren't close enough to get the exact measurement. I'm going down within a month to remove the computer panel on the air conditioner and autopilot because they aren't working properly. I can get the exact measurements then but I think your right. Have you had any luck?

I am in the same boat and would like to know which windlass would be the best choice.

RayV and PK, I did my own Lewmar 1000 windlass installation. The Pro-Series or Pro-Fish 750 is rated for up to 35-foot boats and would save money on wiring and fuse sizes. The 1000 is rated to 40 feet, and I figured more power is better, and only 80 dollars more than a 750. I had money in the pocket and a West discount (as a new-boat owner). The Pro-Fish free-fall design has some benefits, but the extra 100 bucks may not be worth it. If you'll email me at repenceatmsn.com, I'll send my write-up to you.

A fellow 323 owner got the wireless remote for $150, and since the wired remote switch itself is 100+ dollars, wireless seems worth it. I would just suggest a simple backup SPST switch be wired in somewhewre in case the wireless gets lost or stepped on.
