I have a slight bow in my mast (Hunter 260) - towards the stern. I've been wondering if it is because the aft vertical stay is possibly too tight? I've looked at other forums - some say it's 'normal' with a B&R rig ... but I was wondering if I loosened the aft most stay on each side - would this help?

Remember, the 260 does not have a backstay. These rigs need to be carefully tuned, both for safety and performance. Rigging instructions in the owners manual (going from memory) call for about 3" of rake. Without this rake or bend, the mast can be put in a condition where it reverse bends, or whiplashes. Nasty stuff! Also, if I remember correctly, don't induce all the bend above the spreader bar. It should be fairly uniform the entire length.

I am calling folks tonight to answer questions for them. I am the guru on this boat and will be glad to call. Send your contact phone number to me at davecondon@mindspring.com and I will call and advise as it would take too long to write it. I am credited for these boats even though I only had a history degree. Like I tell folks, I just sctratched my head with ideas. I wonder if that is why I am bald on the back of my head.

Thank you for the website. I am the one who instructed Hunter on the mast raise system and that site is basically what I tell everyone with a little more information. THank you for pointing that out. I have yet to hear from tgrass462.
