Deperately need an incantation to rid my marina and local waters of a jellyfish infestation. I noticed a couple of days ago that the water looked like it was boiling, but on closer inspection found what must be millions of small (dime sized) jellyfish. I'm sure they make adorable pets, but right now they are meeting their death but the hundreds in my fresh water strainers. I can run my refidgerator for about two mintes before all waterflow ceases. We'll be eating lots of fast-defrosting foods shortly. Anyone else experience this, and any clue as to how long until the waters are clear again?

The jellyfish (bad news first).

Bad news: Jellyfish migrate to warm water so when the water cools, they should be on their way. In my case, the jellys move in during July-August and stay until mid-September. Worse news: Jellys don't die if you cut them up (or if they are cut up in your strainer). They multiply the in the same manner a starfish does. The only effective method that I know of to expedite their demise is to burry them on the beach. Sounds like you have a lot of digging to do.

eat them

I recall in Japan having ate a few jellyfish. It looks like strips of cellophane and tastes about the same. Not much left after all the water is removed. Bon Apetit' dave
