Hi,
Has anyone made a piece to create one big bed out of the two single beds?

Im thinking i may be able to stow it under the single bed cushion.

Hi,

I bought some bed slats from IKEA. They fit nicely between the two bunks
in the main cabin (I added stops for them under the cushions that double as
a holder for the "dry mesh" ventilation I put under the cushions). You just
slide over one of the cushions on top to make a double bed with a space on
one side (or move both cushions and have a space on both sides). They roll
up and will fit under one of the bunks. They're birch plywood - probably
not marine ply but in three years I've not seen any sign of delamination -
they're only used inside anyway. This is a very cheap option that is
probably more comfortable, easier to stow and at least as strong as a solid
ply solution and I'd recommend it.

I did. I put cleats on the 3 sides of the opening to support a 3/8 plywood
piece, picked some fabric and cushioning to match existing, and had it made
up. Important that the foam be same thickness and firmness as the
mattresses.

An issue is the fiddles that keep the mattresses in place may be
uncomfortable if lied upon, and I have bought some split soft pipe
insulation to put over the fiddles. Better had I obtained an oversized
cushion that could just be squeezed in the opening, covering the fiddles.

I store the ply under a bunk - and conceive it could be useful in a repair
emergency - but the ply and cushion make a nice recliner in the salon as
well.

Yes I also made a large bed in the salon. A couple of support slats and plywood work nicely. The plywood stores under the cushons and the slats behind the seat backs. I use a blow up mattress to span the whole area so it takes up very little extra space when deflated. It also solves the problem of comfort over the uneven parts of the seats.

Those are some great ideas.
I think putting a small sturdy rail along the walkway may be nice because you wont need lips on the wood cross pieces. And the thicker foam as Mitzi mentions.
So... I haven't measured, but the with sounds like it changes. Can the cross pieces be stowed under one of the other berth cushions?

I gots an ideer....

What if Peter, designs a new type of table..... That also fits on the rails as a BED!
And you use two shorter poles to provide support underneath?

And the table can be made in two pieces, so it can be used as one or two smaller tables. Which makes it easier to stow...

I like the idea of being able to make the starboard settee into a double bunk, but also was concerned on where to put the board. I've come up with an idea that I will most likely try being that I'm replacing everything anyway. I was thinking that; instead of having two plywood backed cushions to cover each of the storage openings in the seat back, make one long one. It would be a bit more of a pain when getting into that storage, but could be long enough to server as a bed extension and would already be padded. The only things that would need to take up valuable storage area are several support boards that could fit most anywhere. Just my thinking out loud right now being that I'm not far enough along yet to try it. Any thoughts?

Well, it looks like you've already done my work for me .... good idea, Groundhog!

BTW, Sin Tacha has two rails, one along each settee front, and a piece of 3/8" ply (stowed under the starboard settee) that flips right into the slot to fill the gap. The filler piece is under the cushion and doesn't take up any space at all.

Thanks for the links, Steve. What a well thought out and constructed boat. The Pearson Triton was on my short list for quite a while ... until I discovered the Vega :)
