Was up in Portland and Bangor, Maine this last weekend enjoying a family reunion. Thursday to Sunday was those kind of days you just sit back and enjoy all that you can see. I wish I could have stoped and seen our HOW friends in Portland. While up in Bangor, they were having the American Folk Festival. Took this picture of these two sail boats sitting out in the river. Any of you know these boats.

I hope you guys got out and enjoyed that weather. My family said it has been raining way to much.

Great Maine picture Jim.

When I lived in NY we always vacationed up that way and I miss it. Thought about that on Thursday whilst flying over Maine on the way back from Ireland. I could see all those beautiful bays on the Maine coast and the thousands of islands. And like any good sailor I sought out the water in Ireland. The picture is just off the Atlantic in the bay near Dingle, County Kerry.

Stop by and visit if you're in Portland again!

Hey Jim, if you're going to be up here drop me an email! WWW.Escape is in Portland at the Maine yacht center and we'd love to meet you face to face! yes, the sailing up here is fantastic, even with the fog! We (Maine Hunter Sailing Association) cruised Pen bay for 2 weeks at the end of August-16 boats in the flotilla, out of a membership of 38- and we had a great time, exploring a lot of new to us harbors;we could do this for the next 20 years and not run out of interesting places!

Going Cruising

Heading east on Friday with an overnight race to NE Harbor. May even go further east to Roque Island but definately heading back into Penn. Bay for a couple of weeks.

Maine sail is out cruising this week. He must really be out there for him not to be updating us regularly.

hope you have a great trip!

Looks like the weather's finally better! we've been out the past 2 weeks, just daysailing, and it's been the best sailing so far this summer. We're heading for Little snow in 2 weeks for lobstas, then the Newport show for dreaming....
the trip log and photos from Pen bay should be on the MHSA website soon.

Headed your way . . .

. . . October 4th. No sailing this trip though.

Dad's got a timeshare in Evergreen Valley that we're going to visit & hope for good Fall color and hungry trout. Otherwise we'd be headed to MDI where he lives and we'd hopefully be doing some sailing on his 34 foot . . . Pearson I think . . . which will probably be on the market before long.

Too bad it's so big or I'd try to talk him out of it. Oregon's not bad if you were raised in Maine but ocean cruising is difficult here. Straight coast, the harbors are all rivers, and when the weather gets bad you don't want to be on the wrong side of the bar at the end of the jetty. We lake sail and I dream of cheap gas so we can fill the truck and drag the boat north to cruise Puget Sound or the San Juan's next year.
