You guys are great with letting us newbys in on how to do stuff. I want to pull and check the bearings on my trailer that is original Mac, 1988 26D. I know there is a simple trick or procedure but I don't want to damage the cylinders. Anybody tell me the trick to doing it? Thanks much.

deadblow hammer with plastic or rubber face to avoid scratching finish, tap both sides of the buddy alternately to walk it out of the bore. Tap at an angle to help it along. If you don't care about the finish, you can grab the buddy with a big pair of pliers and walk it off the hub.

How would you remove plastic bearing buddies w/o destroying them? OLD ones - been on for years.

Actually it's a 4 step process: 1) buy new steel bearing buddies, 2) Gently tap the plastic ones with a 4 pound sledge; one full swing tap should break it off cleanly, 3) Remove the hub and punch out whatever is left in the hub with a hammer and punch, 4) install the steel ones like you should have in the first place 18 years ago. :)
