I have a Bearing Buddy Axle W / Drum brakes on my sailboat trailer . I have a 24ft Windrose by Laguna Yachts . And i can't seem to find a rebuild kit for the front master cylinder type brake system . Anyone know where i would find such a thing ? I can't afford to change it to Disk with a new weld on tongue . Also i couldn't change it to Disk because the spindle is bent , yes the spindle not the axle . I can live with it , carrying a grease gun & an extra set of bearings . As you can guess a new trailer it out of the question . Any suggestions on where to find a rebuild kit would be great ! THANKS .

Is your axel a straight spinal or drop. If straight you can have the spendable replace at most welding shops

Buddy bearings are typically those that are put onto the outside in place of a dust cover cap in order to squirt grease into. From your description, I assume you have the grease fittings on the end of the spindle. That being the case, the spindle contrary to what you say is part of the axle which the bearings go onto with the racers. If that is bent, you will have problems with bearings failing and that sir is not good at all. Then a new axle is a must. I learned as a dealer in the beginning the hard way. You do not want to put your family nor yourself in an unsafe situation pulling a trailer of any kind.

I believe in the Toledo area you would find a trailer supply house and as noted in the forum, there are places that will ship to you as well. Generally there are markings on the axle.

In addition to the master cylinder rebuild, again you should be able to find that at a trailer supply. The manufacturers basically use the same style one for drum and the other for disc. I wish I could remember but I have been out of the business for a while but a good trailer supply will be able to help but be careful as many salesmen do not know what I would be talking about as they would try to sell you a whole unit which is bunk.

One thing I will stress and that is repairing your trailer. Do not take safety out of the factor sir. You are risking the lives of anyone to include yourself when you tell me transporting a boat on an unsafe trailer, That is something you do not want to consider.

Do you have a surge brake actuator w/built in master cylinder? If so, look for ID on actuator and contact mfg. Otherwise contact trailer mfg.

This may not be helpful. I replaced the hydraulic brakes with electric. I got really tired of fixing them. The actuator is still in place. I put a grade eight bolt thru the lock out hole in the actuator to keep it from moving. However, a bent axel will have to be replaced.

Surge brakes if maintained properly work very well but the thought of electric brakes in salt water would not be my cup of tea. Never recommended electric brakes going into water due to the maintenance on them doing so on the Hunter trailers.

make sure you hone the cylinder

Check your model number first!

I disassembled everything, then took the cylinder to my garage that maintains my vehicles and had him hone out the cylinder with a brake device to make the bore smooth again.

My son, when he pulls the trailer alone that the brakes hold back his truck on the hills, it weighs in at 9200 lbs.

First off my axle is a drop . 2nd : I found out my Buddy Bearing trailer is a Trailer Buddy , trailer with a Titan model 20 actuator type , and there are rebuild kits for it . & 3rd : I can only try to find a replacement axle at a boat junk yard . I do not have a lot of time & money to invest for a trailer that this is the last time i will use . The previous owner has towed this boat from Toledo to Florida & back twice the way it is . I've checked the bearings & they are not wore . I'm going from Toledo to cincinnati , then the trailer will be scraped . BELIEVE ME safety is my main concern , my complete 2 year, refit / rebuild to make this small sailor a liveaboard is not going to be ruined over a trailer malfunction .Thanks everyone for your replies & attachments its good to know the model is a Titan 20 & not a 60 like everyone seemed to think when i called, This is a very light weight trailer . THANKS again .

fix the axle

One of my axles was bent and one was twisted. I found a shop nearby that does welding, axles and suspension work. They straightened both axles to factory specs for $75 each!
