Sitting watching the sunset recently in a marina that we were visiting, I noticed that the exterior of the Force 10 BBQ mounted on my stern rail was easily the dirtiest of the several that I could see on all other boats.

Any tips on the best cleanup process? Do the special cleaning solutions really remove most/all of the staining? I suspect that some serious abrasion might be the best approach!

Stainless Steel cleaner works well on my stainless steel grill. I think they are relatively low to moderate abrasion. Bartenders Friend is a little more abbrasive and also tends to do the job as well, especially if the stain is a little more stubborn.

I tried keeping mine clean with Flitz when we first got the new grill. The Flitz worked great, but then I realized it was only gonna get dirty again, so why bother? We keep ours covered most of the time anyway.

Don't consider it dirty, consider it seasoned and well-used! :)

After 3 1/2 seasons mine looks pretty good. I do, however, stow mine when not in use.

for an expensive solution, look to the manufacturer of the BBQ - Magma now makes a cleaner.

Another option. After searching through a lifetime accumulation of bottles and tins of all sorts of cleaners in my garage, I found a very old can of a product for cleaning chrome wheels - which worked well enough. (I still have my old 100-6 Healey but it is quite neglected since I started boating)

As far as I am concerned, if the BBQ is nice and shiny clean, it means it isn't getting used. We keep ours clean enough so no grease or other crud gets on the boat. Our grill gets used often when we are on the boat and we have had some very good meals. That is what it is there for. The "patina" reflects that.

Magma Cleaner

The Magma cleaner is insane. Paint a little bit on, wear gloves, wait no more than 5 mins, hose it off, looks brand new. Crazy. No more than 5 mins should it be left on to work according to directions.
