Bayfield 25 H.I.N.

I purchased a 1978 Bayfield 25 this summer and need a Hull ID number or some sort of serial number for insurance. I cannot see a number in the typical place on the starboard transom so could there be one somewhere else?

I did a bit of research and apparently manufacturers did not have to put HIN's on boats until 1982 in Canada but I figured there must be some sort of ID number somewhere.

Any ideas would be great help.

Surely a 1979 boat has been registered at some time. Use what the previous owner did .

Point out the fact that HIN were not requied until 1982 and ask what they will accept in it's place. You may have to speak with a manager.

Boats built in the US pre 1972 had no HIN. Boats built in Canada pre 1982 didn't either. Wasn't needed.

If the boat was built before HIN's were required, most states will issue one. Check with your agency that issues registration numbers

One would think when they bought a boat, that the hull number would be on the paperwork. Often, prior to the issuance of official manufacturer hull numbers, with the now accepted info that the number provides, there was a simple sail number. Like if the number 52 was on the sail, that was hull 52.
