I have 2 group 27s. One under the sink and another added under the port side galley cushion. I think these came with one group 24 from the manufacturer.

No but for daysailing, coastal cruising and weekend trips I would suggest 2 wet cell, group 27, deep cycle batteries connected via a (2,1, all, off) battery switch. They can easily start the diesel and will give you approximately 200 amp/hours capacity. This is a very affordable setup and widely used by recreational boaters.

I use 2 Group 24 wet cells on my boat. One under the sink, the other on the top shelf of the cabinet under the stove. I like Group 24s because they are relatively cheap and easy to pick up and move, when needed. I got 7 yrs service out of the first pair I put on the boat in 2004 and just changed them out last year. Choosing batteries depends a lot on your anticipated ampere-hour usage of them. Mine have an easy life as they are only used to start the engine and to run the depth/knotmeters, GPS, and VHF.
