Battery hookup on Johnson 6hp engine

I have a 1993 Hunter 23.5 with a Johnson 6hp engine. There is a 2 wire lead to the engine area that I suspect hooks up to the engine's alternator to charge the battery. The owner's manual on the engine does not give electrical connection information. Can anyone provide wiring hookup information on this?

The wires coming from the motor should be color coded in some way. IF the wires are black and red, the red is positive and should go to the positive terminal of the battery., Black is usually negative and of course goes to the negative terminal. If the wires are black and white as I have seen in some cases, generally, the black wire is neagative and white is positive. What do you have?Also, the newer Hunters have gone to a yellow wire code for DC or battery ground. This is good as sometimes folks have gotten the DC black negative wire confused with the AC black hot/positive wire. Crazy Dave Condon

Color Code

The wires are blue and white. The battery side would seems fairly straight forward but which terminals on the engine are appropriate? There is a terminal barrier strip on the left side of the engine that is angled downward toward the front of the engine. There are 4 connections on the barrier strip. All of them come from a component mounted above the strip. There are 3 yellow leads with stripes and one red lead.

Ed;I would suggest that you go to a motor mechanic who would know OMC small outboard engines. For the record, OMC is no more as they bankrupt and the small engines are no longer being made. However, there are still many mechanics that know your engine and suggest you go there.Crazy Dave Condon

Thanks for the response. Finding a mechanic with wiring diagrams seems like the way to go.
