There was a recent discussion on this topic. My particular 410 configuration has a Heart Interface 25 charger/inverter. Its remote panel has two buttons to activate the equalization precess. We've had the boat for nearly a year and a half and I have never equalized the two 4D house batteries. I was worried. I telephoned their tech guy (800-446-6180). He told me that the equalization should be done "every 30 cycles". This means if a boat is used every day where a demand is placed upon the batteries, and they are then charged, this is one cycle. So, I wasn't as bad off as I thought. The process took ten minutes shy of 8 hours. I was told to turn off all DC and properly ventilate. It was OK to have AC stuff on. He also stressed that I check the fluid level before and after. Also, do the same for specific gravity. He said that I didn't need to "baby sit" and could leave during the eight hour period. One thing I did was to put paper towels on top of the caps. This way I could see if the electrolite was boiling over. When completed, the batteries showed 13.7 volts compared to about 13.5 before the process. John Richard s/v Jack's Place
