I have just bought a MacGregor26D, 1990 and I am learning about it. First question: the battery is now in the middle of the cabin. Where is the battery compartment? Second question for now (I'm sure many more to follow!): Does anyone know where I can get a detailed diagram (or pictures) of this boat with all the sails connected correctly? (I confess I have only sailed a couple of times with my son, and i am learning from almost point zero). Thanks for any help. I love the boat and want to really learn how to sail her. Jim

battery

thats the factory setup for the battery. stb side, under the seat. I moved mine under the sink, after installing epoxied 1/4" plywood over the balast. you'll find the electrical system very marginal, and most rewire... some put the batt in the laz. take a long look at the boats on macgregor-boats.com then google macgregor web ring. more examples to look at. basically the black bullseye fairlead is for the 110 jib, and the cars are for the genoa. many of hte boats get modified, so if you take some digital photos then post them here or create a acct on one of the photo hosts then link we might be able to answer more specific questions. many of us were where you are now... newbies... welcome!

link to the manual

The best you can do is download and print a copy of the manual. I have below a link to a very good website who has a nice amount of information including the manuals for several different MacGregors. I got my wire and switches from Boatfix.com and Defender.com has a great price for blocks and such... good luck, mark

learned with my son 3 years ago with our 26d

It's a great idea learning to sail with your son. My son and I started from scratch 3 years ago with our 26D. if you're new to boats, I would recommend contacting the local Power Squadron chapter and attend their boat smart course. I took it with my son who was 12 at the time. Not so much about sailing but good general information. If you want to talk ,,learn from my mistakes :),, email me at toms_house@yahoo.com

Batteries & gas tanks

Long time listener...first time caller, As the owner of a 1992 mac 26S I've gathered many great ideas and mods to make my own sailing esperience more enjoyable and satisfying. But I do have a problem that I'd like to get some advice on. Due to a shoulder problem I've had to trade in my pull start outboard for a 9.9 HP Yamaha electric start. The natural spot for the battery is in the aft lazerette...but that is also where the gas tank is typically kept. Although I have seen website pics where owners have put gas tanks next to batteries in confined spaces, my concern is that a battery spark could ignite gas fumes from the tank. Am I being overly cautious by putting the gas tank up on deck or is it safe enough to keep both together down underneath? I hate to fool around when it comes to safety...your opinion is appreciated Thanks!

That's one of my projects

ALex, That's one of my projects for this season. The fumes from the tank in my laz get into the cabin when the vent is open on the can. I wouldn't put anything with the potential to spark in an enclosed gas compartment! Another option might be a small can in the motor well under the motor tiller handle
