I have just purchased a 1984 cat 25 with a johnson 9.9 sailmaster motor. It has electric start and i believe charging for the batteries. Ther is no electrical plug from motor to power. It seems that the owner ran a line through the cabin into the cocpit to the motor. There must be a better way to both use the electric start option and to charge the batterys, has anyone added a plug and socket to their boat? I was thinking maybe a socket like the ones used for shore power and a mating plug from the motor. Any ideas? What do you guys use to charge the batteries? Thanks Bob.

What about solar panels?

Bob, Have you looked into solar powered battery chargers? I believe a battery maintainer can be purchased for around $40, and solar panels that can charge and run various equipment go for a couple hundred dollars. I was wondering how the best way to charge the battery was, also. I just bought a Cat. 22 and a previous owner had attached a separate "charger board" with the pos & neg poles on it (I don't know what else to call it) which, when needed, plugs into a cable/wire from the battery. The charging poles this way can be accessed for charging and the battery would not have to be taken out of it's compartment to be charged. (OK - I'm obviously not very technical here, but hopefully you get the picture). I've got to try it out for the first time when I play hooky & go sailing tomorrow :) Good luck! Lisa
