:)hello,
I just purased a '87 H34 and was stunned to find it did not have an installed AC battery charger. Please recommend type and installation.

depends on what you are trying to charge and how often.

What size batteries?
How often and at what rate will you discharge them?

I threw out a Xantrex charger/inverter, have an "Iota" 30 amp. Love their openness/accessibility. When you clik on contact us on thire web site, you get photos and e-mail addresses for the President, VP sales, Tech support and others.

Charger works fine, has optional plug in module for 3 stage charging and floats at 0.2 or 0.3 amps at 13.6 volts when batts are fully charged.

Just installed a new Xantrex True Charge 2, 40 amp system, complete with remote display and battery temp sensor. I have 2 Group 27 house batteries and 1 Group 24. I now leave the refrigerator running full time. best money spent. Beer is always cold.

I installed a Xantrex TrueCharge 40+ back in 2007. Still working great but it doesn't get as much use since I installed 170 watts of solar in 2010. House bank is 4 Trojan 6V batteries and Start battery is a GP24. I don't think I'll be throwing the Xantrex out any time soon though.

I think he meant he threw out his Xantrex, they have a pretty good history of problems, and he replaced it with an IOTA brand charger.

I prefer the Sterling Pro-Charge Ultra, ProMariner Pro-Nautic P or the Mastervolt chargers... These are all very good quality high performance marine chargers.

TED5610 check your battery charge and float voltage. My Xantrex kept the beer cold but was not keeping batteries charged. Warranty replaced two of them the 3rd seems to work. I now use a hydrometer every two weeks lost my trust in my Xantex.

Sorry, I didn't subscribe to this thread. Maine had it right. Iota came with boat. I replaced it with xantrex's sw 2000. After 2nd failure, I removed the xantrex and re installed the old Iota.

I got rid of my Xantrex Charger/Inverter as well. It was boiling out my batteries. I also had to replace my Xantrex charger on my last boat. I replaced the charger/inverter on my current boat with a Magnum and love it. On my last boat I installed a Charles charger and had good luck with it. Bottom line I would never install and Xantrex anything on my boat, regardless how cheap it may be.

Hello all,
I got the 30 Amp Pro-mariner pro-tournament 300 Dual off e-bay. It seemed to work OK for my two batteries.
