My battery charger (West Marine wc-40amp "Smart Battery Charger) went out last week and going through the trouble shoot guide indicates it needs to be serviced by a qualified service tech ($45-$55 per hour charge) Do these chargers blow out regularly during these summertime thunderstorms when power surges caused by lightning occurr?? or was this a freak thing. Also is it better to just replace this one ..I think it cost about $150..& I cant imagine the service tech charging less than a couple hours for the work. Thanx

How long have you had the charger? Contact West Marine and tell them your problem (maybe still under warranty). You know they are really good about returns (especially their own brands)

My WC20 "smart charger" just went out, too. It was 2 yrs. old. Your warranty is 1year.West doesn't service these chargers. If you can determine that there is no output you might be lucky enough for it to be one of the internal fuses. My installer checked those out for me and they were good. Anyway...called West and they referred me to Stat Power (604) 420-1585. They have a flat rate of $110 to service/replace the unit. Your WC-40 may be more. My unit was $299 new,so I'd assume yours was more. Waiting on my replacement unit now...shipped Mon.All I can say is I expected the charger to last longer than this and if it craps out soon I'll be looking for a different brand!!! Good luck.
