Hopefully some weekend electricians can help me out on this one. I have a Sentry battery charger and when my batteries are fully charged the "Full Charge" light is on but every 3-4 minutes the light turns and the charger turs on at almost full scale on the ammeter for a few seconds then the full charge light comes back on and the charger shuts off. The batteries are pretty new. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

Is this a marine charger?

It sounds like this is a automotive automatic battery charger. Can you set the output to a lower setting? Automatic chargers do recycle on and off. Perhaps you have a drain on the batteries you're not aware of. If so, the charger is working correctly.

Does that charger have a

"maintenence" setting? Some chargers are designed to "maintain" the battery, that is, they charge it to fully charged then they go back every so often to test it and re-charge it if needed. 3-4 minutes seems too often, but you never know. From my chargers, I can tell you that they always seem to go to the highest setting first and then back down from there. Even when the battery is almost fully charged, they will jump up to 12.5 for a few seconds and then beep and drop down to 11 or so, and so forth down the scale.
