I am installing two daisy-chained 12v AGM batteries in my 2001 Beneteau 311. I believe that the Sentry Battery Charger is original or near original equipment. I need to change the battery charger. Any recommendations?
What size AGM? For AGM you generally want a charger of at least 20% the total amp hour capacity of the bank. For example with two 100 AH batteries you’ll want at least a 40A charger.
I have a Xantrex Truecharge 2 20A for two 105 AH AGM’s. It’s undersized for the bank but we do mostly daysailing so it does OK. The first Xantrex lasted 6 seasons before failing. I wanted to replace it with a Sterling ProCharge like https://shop.marinehowto.com/products/sterling-procharge-ultra-battery-chargers but it was right when COVID lockdowns were starting and I didn’t want to be stuck missing some obscure part, so I replaced it with the same model Xantrex again.
I appreciate the information. The new batteries are 55 AH AGMs. The soon to be replaced charger is 12V, 20A, 2 outlet. The batteries were working until the nasty bitter cold hit the area. The batteries quit and I felt new ones were needed. I think the Xantrex that you have for your boat would fit the bill.
