Looking for an idea as to where to put the battery in my boat. There was an old wood structure fittined to the beam in the botto, but it rotted out. any uniques ideas.

Battery placement

I have a '78 O'day 25', It has a dual battery system installed. The first one is located in the storage area on the Stbd side of the the cockpit. The other is in the area under the Port Lazeritte, the storage access just outboard of the engine access panel. On the Port battery a small platform had to be made to keep the battery level.

Batts Placement

My thoughts on placement of the batts aboard my 25, were low, along the centreline, and ease of access. I have 2 6V golf cart batts for house and 1 12 V start. Total weight, about 180lbs. All located under the cockpit floor, on a piece of 3/4" plywood spanning across the hulls. Easily accessed through the starboard lazerette. I bought plastic trays for the batts bottoms with rubber collar and threaded rod tie downs. So far its been great.

Battery Placement

I'm doing this right now myself. Don's idea sounds good, but it also sounds like he has an outboard. If that's what you have, I would do the same. My boat is an inboard with no room to put the batteries along the centerline of the boat since the engine and gas tank are there. In my case, the boat came with two batteries mounted on a board in the starboard side hold. I am also mounting two more group 27 batteries. I am putting them under the [port] quarterberth next to the icebox after glassing in a level base. I've also added an access hatch. I am using battery trays rather than boxes since this is a very tight area. ABYC requires mounted batteries move no more than an inch with a 90 lb force applied in any direction, so they need to be fastened quite securely. ABYC also requires a way to vent the hydrogen, so I added a bulkhead and will be adding a small fan to clear the hydrogen out of this rather confined space. Russ.
