Gel Cells or AGM batteries.

Morris: We have left our battery charger running for 15 years. Our original batteries lasted about 3 years. We orginally haad a Pro-Mariner 20 charger (not the type for Gels) We had these batteries on the boat for over 10 years without even thinking about them. When these batteries finally gave up the ghost we got a Stat Power 40 Plus. We also changed over to AGM's. I hope to get another 10 years from these batteries.

Morris: 3 years is it anyway...

..in my 25 years of experience. Even if you don't leave the charger on. Steve is right, either toss a cheap battery at three years or pay several times as much and get ten. I put in golf cart. Long cycle life and cheap too. Good luck. Rick D.

110v to 12v DC conversion

Is easy depending on the amperage you need. I assume you are talking about 110 'shore' power going to the boat and leaving the charger on to charge the batteries to supply the refer with 12V power (whew !). If that's the case, what you need is a 110/12V power supply unit that converts the 110 to 12V directly and leave the batteries out of the loop. These are available in many sizes/prices. What you need to determine is the startup amp draw on the refer unit and get a unit that can handle this startup load intermittently (cause it only lasts for an instant). That unit will handle the running load easily. Hope this helps. Jerry
