batteries

Hi All,

Just a quick question. Where do people keep their batteries? Mine
are in a wooden box in the starboard side cockpit locker, (fuel tank
in the port locker balances some of the weight). But there's no lid
on the box, and I've just bought a metal boathook...

Before I start changing things, I just wondered if anyone had come up
with a clever place to put them. Perhaps in those plastic battery
boxes in the space next to the sink? (with appropriate drip proofing,
obviously)

I have 2 standard 85Ah wet lead acid batteries, probably like most
vegas with the Beta engine I assume. They're too big to fit in the
original space under the floorboards, and I'm quite suspicious about
putting them there anyway.

Cheers,
Tom

We have two group 27 batteries. One is under the cabin sole in what I
think was the original position, just foreward of the fuel tank. The
other is on the port side, aft of the stove under the removable floor
of the cabinet. another way to imagine where it is is to stick your
head in the cabinet directly under the stove and look aft. Both
batteries are securely fastened using, not a battery box but a
battery hold down tray. They are on page 509 in the West Marine
catalog.($13.99 for a group 27). The tray under the cabin sole had to
be trimmed to fit but I'm very happy with its location and
strength. Hope this helps, Frank and Tena, Vega 2141

We have two batteries under the cabin sole and one in a closed plastic battery box in the port side cockpit locker up against the forward bulkhead.
