I ran the engine for about an hour last night, then after shut down I notice that one of the batteries was making a hissing sound. The are just 12 volt wet cells. Is this normal?
Have not had this problem on a boat but a number of years ago I experienced it with a car. The hissing caught my attention and lifting the hood disclosed a battery that was bulging from the pressure. Problem was a voltage regulator. If I ever discover a similar problem on my boat I will quickly disconnect the battery as pressure being released is not normal and in my opinion very dangerous.
