I've just acquired a 1991 First 285 (no batteries). I'm having dificulty in finding batteries that will fit in the battery compartment in the aft cabin. Does anyone know the brand and model numbe of a battery that will fit or is some modification required to the placement of the batteries? Help will be greatly appreciated.

Batteries

The standard batteries are either Group 24 or Group 27 for boats. If they don't fit I'm wondering if some modification was made to group a number of 6 volt batteries together. Although I would think that is unlikely Good luck Charlie

Possibly it uses the gel-cell type that can lay on their sides. That's how they are in my 40 Oceanis.

Consider Optimas

I replaced both mine with Optima D34Ms. Battery Model: D34M Part Number: 8016-103 Description: High power, dual purpose engine start and deep cycle, sealed lead acid battery. They are 7.8" high which is higher than the compartment cover when closed. Therefore, just raising the compartment cover by ~.5" by using spacers works. They have been working great so far.

The Group 24's wouldn't fit in my F310 either, about 1/2" to long. Found some AGM's that would fit. Randy
