Does anyone know what the proper batten width and/or thickness, shape, etc is for the H26? I acquired a 1994 H26 and it had a variety of either no batten, or different widths. The velcro that holds the batten in is old and does not hold the batted in very well and I suspect that the battens are too skinny and find their out of the pocket and to the bottom of the ocean. Is anyone else having problems with the topping lift line detaching the velcro on the batten pockets?? Also, can anyone with a cruising chute tell me about what angle the sail will perform running off the wind? Is anyone using a wisker pole on the cruising chute to run dead downwind? Is this the right answer? Thanks in advance, Mark Gruber H26 0014 NautiBreeze

I believe 5/8" tappered.

At least the stock sail was. I got 1" lowers but they make sail handling (mostly flaking)a little harder. The Velcro wears out , you can either have them resewn or drill a hole and sew them in for the season. Obviously you can't adjust them then. alan

Batten Length

Mark, Had the same problem with my battens. Ordered the battens tock from Doyle Sail Makers. I believe Doyle sent me the batten stock all rolled up. You just give them the total of all the lengths needed and you can cut the sizes at the boat. I took a file and rounded the edges so they wouldn't tear the pocket or sail. I can't remember the size exactly but 5/8's sounds right. Ask Doyle. My velcro is also shredded. Someone suggested on this site to use sail tape to cover them. I tried it and it's been working since last year. This will hold up until I can send the sails out to be cleaned and repaired. Paul H S/V Linda Belle 95 H26
