I am having a hard time finding replacements for the batten end caps that came with my sails. I have attached a picture. The opening appears to be 15mm wide and about 7mm thick. Anyone know where these particular items can be purchased? Thanks Bill Murray S/V Good Faith H29.5

Bill, You can buy batten end plastic covers

from West Marine. I have found that they just fall off. These are the covers that slide over the batten ends. I just sand the batten ends round enough to remove the sharp edges and then torch the end with the trusty "Bic". You can tape the outer end but not the forward end nor should you cap it as the tape or cap will simple stay down in the hole and foul the next batten. Drilling the outer end of the batten and inserting a small nylon line and tying that to the flap keeps the batten in. Ray

End caps

I contacted Hunter Marine technician (see HOW main page) and they sent me replacements.

Pesky Caps!

I got tired of retrieving the caps from the bottom of their pockets and attached the batten end caps with hot melt glue. Just squirt some into the cap and quickly insert the batten. It is a quick fix that has held-up for several years now. If only it would work on the darned stanchion end caps! Clayton Bittersweet
