The batten cars on my 410 (year 2000) hang up when the main is being raised. I read in one of the reviews that another 410 owner was having the same problem. Anyone else out there with similar experiences? What about using track lubricant-any brands recommended? Thanks, Ron Rudolph

Just Used Fastrac on my 40.5...

..and it works great. Really surprised at the difference. For twenty bucks, well worth it. You need to take the main out of the track, but the gunged-up slugs (or cars) are problematical anyway, and need cleaning. It is an hour and a half job, including a beer break. Rick D.

I'd try McLube.

Ron: I'd try some McLube. This is what nearly all of the hardware vendors use on their stuff before they ship it out. I'd also suggest that you clean the track and the cars before you try lubing anything. I can imagine that the dirt and little critters would love living on a sailboat.

Use dish detergent, not lube

Had same problem with my 460. UK sails recommended clear or white dish detergent. Any kind of oil based lube will collect grit and salt and turn into a mess that will get on the sails. I use a plastic bottle with a long thin spout designed for mustard or vinegar that I got at a kitchen store. The detergent keeps the track clean and slippery. Works great.

Liquid soap

Ditto on the liquid soap!!!! Spray the bat car track edges too if possible. P.S. Check your cotter pins in the bat cars regularily...stainless rings will prevent hangup worries.

410 Batten Car Hang-up Fix

The batten car hang-up problem was eliminated by Charles Ulmer of U/K Sailmakers. When notified of the problem, he indicated it wasn't the first he had heard about it. He immediately sent me two new slide arrangements, which were much beefier than the original ones supplied. They are working fine. Charles Ulmer can be reached at UK Sailmakers on the web at their City Island, NY location. They offered absolutely outstanding service.
